It has been two years since the Oxford Dictionary named the term “selfie” their “Word of the Year,” but the expression is far from losing its popularity.

Now it’s making an impression on world travel. The new trend in tourism this summer is the concept of selfie contests and promotions.

Vacation industry companies like hotels, resorts, and travel websites – are involving themselves in the selfie movement by encouraging tourists to take selfies using their scene and hashtags for a chance to win prizes.

Companies all over the globe are hopping on the bandwagon – from the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa in California, to Kimpton Hotels across the US, to The Mandarin Hotel in Paris, La Concha Renaissance in San Juan, to the 1888 Hotel in Sydney, The Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, and
